Shriya Saran has sparked fresh curiosity among fans after sharing a surprise selfie with Rajinikanth, nearly two decades after the actors starred together in Sivaji: The Boss. The photograph, posted on Shriya’s Instagram Stories with the simple caption “Happy Day”, has already set social media abuzz, particularly because Rajinikanth appears to be sporting his look from his upcoming film Dharman.
The reunion comes at a time when both actors have several projects generating considerable interest. Shriya, who was last seen on the big screen in the Telugu film Mirai, has also been in the spotlight following the release of Awarapan 2, despite not being part of the Emraan Hashmi-led sequel. Her association with the original film has once again brought her earlier work into conversations among audiences.
For Rajinikanth, the selfie has an added significance. He is currently shooting for Dharman, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu, and the fact that he was photographed in his look from the film has led to speculation that Shriya could have a role in the project.
From Sivaji: The Boss to Dharman?
Shriya and Rajinikanth first shared the screen in Shankar’s 2007 blockbuster Sivaji: The Boss, in which they played the lead pair. The film went on to become one of the most memorable collaborations in both stars’ careers. Their latest photograph marks their first widely reported reunion 19 years after the release of the film.
Naturally, fans have been quick to connect the dots. Reports have suggested that Shriya could make a cameo in Dharman, but there has been no official confirmation from the makers or the actor so far. The selfie therefore remains intriguing rather than definitive evidence of her involvement.
Dharman is shaping up as one of Rajinikanth’s major upcoming projects. Ashwath Marimuthu has previously described the film as a family-oriented thriller, while also drawing comparisons to the mass appeal of Padayappa and the thriller elements of Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu. The film features Rajinikanth alongside actors including Simran and Raashi Khanna and is backed by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International.

Shriya has an interesting slate ahead. Following her recent screen appearances, she is gearing up for Drishyam 3, which is scheduled to release on October 2. She also has Sandakkari in the pipeline and has made a special appearance in a song in Non Violence.
Rajinikanth, meanwhile, will first be seen in Jailer 2, Nelson Dilipkumar’s much-awaited sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on October 15, and its first single, ‘Ala Bolelo’, was released recently.
With Jailer 2 approaching and Dharman currently in production, Rajinikanth’s calendar is already packed. But if the latest selfie is indeed a hint of Shriya Saran joining Dharman, audiences could soon get another glimpse of the much-loved Sivaji pairing, this time nearly two decades after their original collaboration.
For now, however, fans will have to wait for an official word from the makers.
