Actor Soori’s upcoming film Mandaadi has completed shooting, the makers announced on Sunday. Directed by Mathimaran Pugazhendhi, the sports action drama has been in production since last year and has now wrapped after what the team described as an “extensive and demanding schedule.”
Film Wraps After Demanding Coastal Schedule
The announcement has renewed interest in the project, which stood out early on for its setting and subject. The film is rooted in the lives of fishing communities along the southern coast of Tamil Nadu, a milieu that is not often foregrounded in mainstream Tamil cinema. The makers have described Mandaadi as an exploration of “a unique coastal world rooted in the lives of fishing communities,” indicating a narrative that draws heavily from regional detail and lived experience.
The title itself points to that specificity. While not widely used in everyday Tamil, the term “Mandaadi” refers to a specialist who understands ocean currents and wind patterns, guiding fishing expeditions at sea. This occupational role, both technical and instinctive, is expected to shape the film’s dramatic core.
And it’s a wrap for #Mandaadi! – What a journey this has been — a grand sea-based action drama, now onto the next phase !!! 💥🌊

Ensemble Cast and Technical Team Anchor the Project
Alongside Soori, the film features Suhas, who makes his Tamil debut with Mandaadi, and Mahima Nambiar as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Sathyaraj, Ravindra Vijay, Mithun, and Balasaravanan, forming an ensemble that blends established names with newer faces.
The technical crew brings together several experienced collaborators. Music for the film is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, while cinematography is handled by S. R. Kathir. Editing is by Pradeep E. Ragav. The film’s action sequences are choreographed by a team comprising Peter Hein, Dhilip Subburayan, and Mahesh Mathew, suggesting a physically grounded approach to the film’s action blocks.
With filming now complete, Mandaadi has moved into post-production. While a release date has not yet been announced, the transition into the next phase indicates that more updates, including promotional material, are likely in the coming months.
The project continues Soori’s recent trajectory of taking on more performance-oriented roles beyond his earlier comedic image. With its coastal setting and a profession central to the narrative, Mandaadi appears positioned as a film that combines action with a strong sense of place.
